Long Story Short

The Weekend

Vermont was perfect this weekend and I have a new pink glow from the sunny days.

I really, really needed to get away, and it was just exactly perfect. We drove up Friday night listening to Howard Stern on satellite radio and arrived to a perfectly black sky and crystal stars. We unpacked quickly and opened some wine and watched a bit of the Entourage DVD's we brought with us.

Waking up in the condo on Saturday morning was amazing - such a feeling of relief and relaxation. All of us are so much happier up there. We spent the morning sleeping in, taking Bailey out, and then taking a trip down the mountain to get lunch and stock up on groceries.

It was kind of an overcast muggy day. We decided to go swimming at the pool, blatantly ignoring the "No Pets" sign and letting Bailey join us along with four ice cold beers.

Usually we go out to dinner on Saturday night's in Vermont but this time we decided to stay in and cook. We drank some wine and talked and watched movies and then did some dirty things on the couch.

Sunday morning we woke up in fabulous moods, and the weather outside was gorgeous. It had promised to be 90 degrees and it felt like it was heading that way. We got up earlier and went out to breakfast, then stocked up on colored oil for our oil lamps, and new incense. When we went back up to the condo we decided immediately to go to the pool, and we took Bailey again. Somehow there was no one else there for over an hour.

By the time another family showed up we had already decided to leave. We took Bailey to a little lake halfway down the mountain and let her swim and play fetch. We hiked into a little trail and Bailey drank icey cold fresh water from one of the many streams.

By the end of the afternoon my legs ached from walking up and down stretches of the steep mountain, and my face and shoulders were pink.

We ate hotdogs and ice cream for lunch, watched a bit more Entourage, and packed the car to leave at 6.

The weekend was absolutely perfect from beginning to end. Bailey, Professor K and I had a blast.

This afternoon I received a beautiful bouquet of roses, lilies, carnations, and other yummy-smelling things with a note from the Professor saying what a wonderful weekend he had.

We should definitely get away more often.
